Administration Staff

John Crosby – Executive Director/CPO 

John comes to PlaySafe after serving children and families in the upstate for over a decade. In the summer of 2008, he accepted a role with The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club as it’s CPO/Executive Director. During his 8 years of service to The Salvation Army John served in various capacities but his primary role was as the CPO of The Boys & Girls Clubs.

John attended Francis Marion University where he studied secondary education but spent the majority of his free time volunteering in summer camps and with individuals with special needs, this is where John’s passion for serving his community was born. John with his passion for serving people went back to school to obtain a bachelors degree in Human Services.

John moved from the PeeDee to the Upstate with the dream of pursuing a passion of his, with a career in marketing and graphic design. After a successful career in the graphic design world, John returned to his first love of serving people by first returning to the classroom and later the world of nonprofit management. John now resides in the Clemson area with his wife Jennifer, a public educator of 12 years, with their two daughters, Hannah Rose (8) and Hadynn (3). He and his family spend free time together cheering on their Clemson Tigers and serving their community by volunteering and advocating for youth mentoring programs, Family Connection, the American Cancer Society, Eat Smart Move Smart and several global mission initiatives.

His life’s mission has always been to help young people succeed and find their self-worth and place in today’s ever evolving society.

Jason Powell, ATC, SCAT – VP of Operations/Supervising Athletic Trainer

A native of Louisiana and Georgia,  Jason currently resides in Anderson, SC with his wife Lori and two sons Briggs and Turner.  Jason received a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from Troy State University in 1996.  He was the Head Athletic Trainer for T.L. Hanna High School for the past 19 years until recently taking an administrative position with PlaySafe.  He has served as a preceptor for Erskine College’s Athletic Training Program and has served this program in similar capacities for 19 years.  He has also served as a preceptor in sports medicine for Anmed Health Family Practice residency program over the past 19 years.

Jason is currently serving as VP of Operations and the Supervising Athletic Trainer for PlaySafe.

In his free time he enjoys spending time with family, friends and in the outdoors, hunting and fishing.

Ann Cioffi – Office Manager/Administrative Assistant

Ann graduated in 1985 from Erskine College in Due West, SC where she majored in Physical Education.  She received her Master’s Degree in Sports Management in 2007 from the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, Alabama.

Ann began her career in 1985 as an educator in Anderson School District #3 where she taught Physical Education. Ann also started the volleyball program at Crescent in 1987 and assisted with women’s basketball and softball throughout the years. Ann added Assistant Athletic Director to her resume in 1999 and was named Athletic Director in 2009. She retired from education in August of 2016.

Ann was Teacher of the Year at Crescent High School in 1996, SC Assistant Coach of the Year in 1997, AA Athletic Director of the Year in 2013, and Region II AA Athletic Director of the Year in 2016.

Ann resides in Townville, SC and her hobbies include boating, swimming, reading, traveling and loving on her cats and dogs.

Edisto High School

Max Long, ATC

  • Max was born in Lynn Haven, Florida but moved to South Carolina in 2001. He graduated from York Comprehensive High School in 2012. Max then attended and graduated from Winthrop University in 2016 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Athletic Training, second in the in the program. He now resides in Cayce, South Carolina and currently is the head certified athletic trainer at Edisto High School out in Cordova, South Carolina. Max enjoys watching and attending college football games and is a fan of the Auburn Tigers. Max started working for PlaySafe in September 2016 and is excited to see where this career goes.


South Aiken High School

Jen Bierly MS, ATC

  • Jennifer grew up in Gillette, WY. She attended the University of Wyoming and earned her Bachelors’ Degree in Athletic Training. She then attended Louisiana Tech University and earned her Masters’ Degree in Exercise and Sports Science. While attending LA Tech, she worked with the football, volleyball, tennis and softball teams.  She became the Assistant Athletic Trainer at USCA where she worked with all 11 teams. After USCA she went and took a position at Ft. Gordon working as a PTA where she helped with the Wounded Warriors, active duty soldiers and retirees.  She now works for PlaySafe and currently is the Athletic Trainer for South Aiken High School.

Aiken High School

Sheila Cathcart MS, ATC, SCAT

  • Head Certified Athletic Trainer for Aiken High School, in Aiken, South Carolina.  She has been a part of Sports Plus & PlaySafe since 2002.  Spent several years covering both Aiken High School and South Aiken High School.  Graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Charleston Southern University in Charleston, South Carolina.  Received her Masters of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Regent University in Virginia Beach, Virginia.  She has been certified since 1999.  Her hobbies include reading, doing crafts, and spending time outdoors.  She spends her free time with her husband, Chad, and two kids, Carmen and Ethan.

Greenwood High School

Jason T. Reed, MS, ATC, SCAT

  • A native of Tipton, Pennsylvania, Jason went to undergrad at St. Francis College of PA.  He graduated in 1999 from SFC with a BS in Psychology. Jason was among the last to be certified as an athletic trainer via the Internship Route.  After certification, Jason began working full time for Saint Francis as the Head Football and Men’s Volleyball Athletic Trainer.  He then attended High Point University and earned a MS in Sports Studies in 2005.  Jason spent the next two years in Buffalo, NY at Canisius College.  From there he moved to South Carolina and became the Associate Head Athletic Trainer at Presbyterian College, where he remained for 7 years.  In 2014, Jason took a teaching/athletic training position with Greenwood District 50.  He has spent the last two years teaching Sports Medicine and Medical Terminology at the G. Frank Russell Technology Center, and has been the Head Athletic Trainer for Greenwood High.  Jason joined PlaySafe as a full time athletic trainer in July.  He resides in Greenwood with his wife, Shelby Dominick Reed, and two children, Summers Hall and Jefferson “Duke” Reed.

Emerald High School

Nick Allen, ATC

  • Born in Simpsonville, SC, Nick has been residing in the Lehigh Valley region of eastern Pennsylvania for the past 16 years. He is a member of the United States Army since 2002, serving with the PA Army National Guard and now the US Army Reserves, to include two combat tours to Iraq in 2006 and 2010. Nick received his Associates Degree in Sports Management from Northampton Community College in 2014 and a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania in 2017. His hobbies and interests include playing basketball, working out and spending time with family and friends.

Belton Honea Path High School 

Jennifer Roberts Smith, MHRD, ATC, SCAT

  • Born in Nashville, TN, Jennifer has been a resident of Anderson, SC for the past 24 years where she currently resides with her 4 year old son, Ryder Bell.  Jennifer received a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from Erskine College in 2005 and in 2007 graduated with a Master Degree in Human Resources and Development from Clemson University.  Jennifer is also a preceptor for Erskine College’s Athletic Training Program.  She has worked as the Head Athletic Trainer for Belton-Honea Path(BHP) High School for the past 8 years.  Her hobbies/interests include going out on the lake, going to the beach, reading, and spending time with family and friends.

Crescent High School

Chelsea Pounds, MA, ATC, LAT

  • Chelsea is a native of Union, SC and now resides in Hartwell, GA. Chelsea received a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training with a minor in Biology from Limestone College in 2009. She is a graduate from East Tennessee State University where she received her Master of Arts degree in Kinesiology and Sports Studies with a concentration in Sports Management in May 2015. She started working for PlaySafe in July 2015 at Walhalla High School and now will begin her first year at Hart County High School in Hartwell, GA this fall.

TL Hanna High School

Jordan Mitchell, MS, ATC, CSS, CES

  • Born and raised in Anderson SC, Jordan attended and graduated high school TL Hanna. He then attended and graduated  from Erskine College with a Bachelor degree in Athletic Training. While in college he was a varsity baseball player. Jordan completed his masters in exercise science online through California University of Pennsylvania. He is also a huge Atlanta Braves fan.

Caleb Pate, ATC

  • Caleb was born and raised in Chesterfield, SC. He graduated from Erskine College with a Bachelor’s of Science in Athletic Training. While in college, he was a student live-in at the Due-West Fire Department and also played baseball.

Westside High School

Alyssa Sotomayor, MS, ATC, SCAT

  • A native of East Brunswick, NJ, Alyssa currently resides in Clemson, SC. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from Ithaca College and her Master of Science degree in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology from the University of Florida. Currently, Alyssa has been providing Athletic Training services since April 2015 for Westside High School. Prior to joining PlaySafe she was the Head Athletic Trainer for Fort White High School in Fort White, FL and a staff athletic trainer at Coker College in Hartsville, SC.  Alyssa enjoys traveling, being active, and spending time with her sweet rescue pitbull mix Gus. Alyssa is also a proud New York Yankee, Florida Gator, and US Soccer fan

Rachel Frabotta, ATC

  • Rachel grew up in Sterling Heights, Michigan where she spent a lot of time around volleyball.  Sh attended William Woods University in Fulton, Missouri where she played volleyball and received her B.S. in Athletic Training in 2016. She now resides in Seneca, SC where her parents retired to in the spring of 2015. Rachel likes to spend her free time with her dog and family, doing anything from playing board games to going hiking. She is looking forward to starting her athletic training career with PlaySafe.

Pendleton High School

Thomas Kemmerle, ATC

  • A native of Cinnaminson, NJ. Tom earned his degree in Athletic Training at Kean University in May 2015 while also playing for their division 3 men’s volleyball team. Tom worked for Strive Physical Therapy in South Jersey for one year before relocating to South Carolina.  He currently resides in Pickens SC.  Tom has been the head athletic trainer at Pendleton High School since the fall of 2016.

Daniel High School

Shawn Arnett, MEd, ATC, SCAT

  • Shawn currently resides in Liberty, SC. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Gardner-Webb University in 2002 and a Masters of Education from Clemson University in 2005. He is the Head Athletic Trainer for Daniel High School where he has provided Athletic Training services for the past 10 years. He enjoys spending his free time with friends and family and watching movies and sports events.

Liberty High School

Brandon Manley, ATC, SCAT

  • Brandon is a native of Anderson, SC where he attended and graduated from Westside High School in 2009.  He then went on to attend Erskine College.  While there he played on the Erskine College baseball team.  Brandon graduated from Erskine in May 2013 with a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Athletic Training.  He plans on going back to school in the future to obtain his Master’s Degree. Brandon is currently the Head Athletic Trainer for Liberty High School where he has been since July 2013.  He currently resides in Easley, SC.  His interests/hobbies are playing organized sports, watching sports, and being outdoors.  Brandon’s favorite teams include the Atlanta Braves (MLB), Atlanta Falcons (NFL), and the University of Georgia (NCAAFB).

Pickens High School

Kathrine Watkins ATC, SCAT

  • Kathrine was born and raised in Winston-Salem, NC. She relocated to Charlotte, NC to attended The University of North Carolina at Charlotte. In May 2016, Kathrine graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training. She relocated to South Carolina when she was offered a job with PlaySafe and currently resides in Greenville, SC. In her spare time she enjoys working out/staying active, spending time with family and friends, playing with her dog Buttercup, and being outdoors. She is very excited to begin my athletic training career with PlaySafe.

Seneca High School

Sean Landes, ATC, SCAT

  • Graduated in 1994 from Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea Ohio with a BS in sports medicine. Currently the Head Athletic Trainer for Seneca High School and beginning 8th year as an AT in Oconee cty. covering both Seneca and West Oak High Schools.  He resides in Oakway, SC with his spouse, Georgia and their two dogs.

Walhalla High School

 Anna Steverson BS, ATC

  • Anna is a Charleston, SC native where she attended Summerville High School. She is a 2015 graduate from Lander University in Greenwood, SC with a bachelors of science in athletic training. Currently working towards her masters, Anna is now the head athletic trainer at Walhalla High School. Residing in Clemson, SC,  Anna enjoys spending her free time with family and friends, by the water, crafting, reading, and being outdoors

West Oak High School

Brandon Pounds, MA, ATC, LAT

  • Brandon received his Bachelor’s of Science in Athletic Training from Limestone College in 2013, where he also played lacrosse. In 2015 he received his Master’s in Health, Exercise and Sports Science from The Citadel Military College as a Graduate Assistant working with the football team. Originally from Simpsonville, SC he currently resides in Hartwell, GA with his wife Chelsea. Before joining the PlaySafe organization, he spent a year and a half at Emmanuel College as an Assistant Athletic Trainer and Adjunct Faculty.

Hart County High School

Dawn Bowden

  • Dawn Bowden was born in Wrentham, MA and lived in Maine for 15 years.  She recently moved to Hartwell, GA where she resides with her son Grey and boyfriend Wayne. Dawn also has a daughter, Hali, who attends the University of Maine Orono.  Dawn received her Bachelor of Science degree in Sport, Fitness, and Leisure with a concentration in Athletic Training from Salem State College in Salem, MA.  She is the Head Athletic Trainer for Hart County High School.  Her hobbies include spending time with family and friends, hiking with her dogs Kaiser and Riddick, and watching her son’s war reenactments.
